World Book Day Celebrations Across Schools
World Book Day 2025 was celebrated with great enthusiasm across the various schools within out Trust, each showcasing their unique approach to fostering a love for reading. From creative costumes and engaging activities to book-themed competitions and reading sessions, students and staff alike embraced the joy of literature. Here are some highlights from the celebration!
Haygrove School: Haygrove School celebrated World Book Day 2025 with a variety of exciting activities. The theme, 'Read Your Way,' encouraged students to explore different reading formats, from audiobooks to graphic novels. Highlights included a book cover design competition, book tokens for every student, a book-themed quiz and treasure hunt, and reading sessions integrated into lessons. Lunchtime activities featured short story readings in the library and drama rehearsals. The school aimed to make this day memorable and foster a love for reading.
Stogursey C of E Primary School: Stogursey C of E Primary School celebrated World Book Day with vibrant costumes and creative energy. Students and staff dressed as their favorite book characters, transforming the school into a living library. The event included a group photograph and various activities to promote reading. Miss Day, the English Lead, praised the community's effort and enthusiasm, while Headteacher Mr. Gary Tucker highlighted the importance of nurturing a love for books.
Sexey’s School: Sexey’s School saw an impressive turnout for World Book Day, with students and staff donning costumes inspired by '101 Dalmatians' and other beloved characters. The school enjoyed seeing the creativity and effort put into the costumes, making the day a delightful celebration of literature.
Haselbury Plucknett C of E Primary School and Merriott Primary School: These schools had a fantastic World Book Day filled with creativity and imagination. Students dressed up as their favorite book characters, participated in reading adventures, and engaged in activities inspired by inspirational books. The daily book café and a virtual author visit added to the excitement. The 'Book in a Box' challenge showcased students' artistic talents, and the schools expressed gratitude to parents and carers for their support.
Spaxton C of E Primary: Spaxton C of E Primary's Reading Ambassadors organized a book character dress-up day and a competition to recreate book covers using various media. The school also planned buddy reading sessions, fostering a collaborative and engaging reading environment.
St Bartholomew's C of E Primary School: St Bartholomew's C of E Primary School had an exciting World Book Day celebration with staff and children coming to school dressed as some of their favourite book characters. A highlight of the day was the Story Explorer Drama Workshop from West End Schools. The book choices explored throughout the day were 'The Gruffalo' for EYFS/Year 1 and 'George's Marvellous Medicine' for the rest of the school. The drama workshops were generously funded by the PTA, and fun and laughter were key components of all the workshops. The day finished with children using their tokens to buy books from The Green Dragon Bookshop, who brought a selection of books into the school. It was great to see children enjoying their new books and happily showing them to their families on the way out.
Ashlands C of E Primary School: To celebrate World Book Day, children were invited to come to school dressed in outfits that made them feel 'ready to read.' Some chose comfortable sporty attire, highlighting how reading exercises the mind, while others wore bright colours to reflect how books brighten their world. The children visited the Green Dragon Bookshop in Crewkerne to exchange their £1 World Book Day Token for selected titles, and enjoyed reading their new books with juice and cake. Thank you to Next Stage Somerset who arranged for Karen Duffett from the Highways Agency to read an extract from The Boy Who Grew Dragons during an online session, which inspired the children with her engaging storytelling and thoughtful responses to their questions.
